I was going to be a top-notch medical doctor (cardiologist) but then I had this early upset about life. Poor from a very low income family, the dream was very high and so were the challenges. Done with Secondary School (High School) at a very tender age but then came the challenge. How am I going to pursue my dream of becoming a medical doctor? Clearly, I am brilliant as my academic records say but universities are not cheap and so are fees for medical courses. Well, what should I do? At that point, the only option was scholarship. As ugly as my situation was, I had the privilege of reading newspapers and using computers at cyber-cafes to get information.

Scholarship application form.
  1. First pointer — “information is power and that separates everyone”. Visiting cyber-cafes opened my eyes to a world beyond my poor status. I was able to apply for scholarships and definitely, I could not get them but guess what? I did not stop
  2. Second pointer — “Never stop what seems right and tick all your dream boxes”. I continued my application and refined my essays with exceptional research about the scholarship requirements, my passion, and how I want to do good after my career.
  3. Third pointer — be attentive to small matters. Nothing is small when it comes to knowledge.
  4. Fourth pointer — reassess your efforts and understand your shortcomings so as to improve and do better.

My applications had become so many and rejections quite large that I couldn’t remember some. Then came the big day.

My phone rang!

Hello, am I speaking with Maxwell? In my normal tone yes and who is this please? Caller simply identified himself as Andrew and called to inform me that I am one of the recipients of an undergraduate scholarship. I was confused but very happy. Remember I had already forgotten about some applications but yes this one was mine. Long story short, the application was for my entire medical study. Yes and everything to make a student successful was included. I am happy to say that this scholarship was a light at the end of a very dark tunnel for me and my family. Today I am happily working as a Medical Doctor and I provide free healthcare to rural communities.

There are lots of places to find scholarships that we can tap to fulfill our dreams. Here is a list of some:
